Nut Basket
Macrame made out of recycled paper cord was one of Korea’s most emblematic craft and was a true popular hobby. Behind this tradition lies the nation’s concern to recycle used paper. Both women and men practiced this socially permeable craft: the nobility, city-dwellers, countrymen and servants, all dedicated their lost hours making these objects, including monks who saw in this practice an excellent way to spend their spare time in the temple. Although this know-how persists in South Korea, it’s becoming very rare.
The ropes are made from recycled and unbleached paper produced by environmental responsible workshops. Braiding these objects requires either needle nor crochet, finger dexterity is the only tool involved. Each artisan haas her or his own style and wya to knot and tie.
